VIC Tourism welcomes Merrijig Inn in Port Fairy, find and discover wonderful places to visit in Port Fairy.

Welcome to the Merrijig Inn, our special place in Port Fairy. The oldest Inn in Victoria, are located in the heart of Port Fairy's historic village. The Merrijig Inn offer traditional bed and breakfast style accommodation with a very big serving of homely comforts. The restaurant, the Merrijig Kitchen offers a daily written menu of seasonal fare, sourced, where possible from the south-west countryside. A well crafted wine list features local, regional and international winemakers who craft their wines using biodynamic and organic practices. Breakfast is very important, with a smorgasbord of home-made fruits and preserves, sourdough bread and the cooked breakfast of the day using free-range eggs and local bacon. Of course, great coffee is guaranteed. The guest lounge always has an open fire during the cooler months, and the chickens welcome you into the extensive kitchen garden. The communal spaces offer lots of opportunity to relax and unwind after that stroll through the village or on one of the beautiful beaches....

Fabulous, quirky and old but with a modern touch. The restaurant uses fresh ingredients out of their garden. Some rooms are spacious and a couple upstairs in the attic area are small, but still have ensuite and worth the experience. A must!

We LOVED this place! The staff was extremely nice and kind. It's where we've received the best hospitality throughout our 25-day trip in Australia. We also had the best breakfast we have had in Australia here! The rooms in the original building are a bit small, but we thought it was nice and cozy. The decor is great and makes you feel at home. We really recommend staying here.

Great food with excellent service. The food is different; but all the flavours work well. The service was attentive without going overboard. The ambience of the place itself is one of real charm.

We loved our stay at this quaint and comfy inn. The staff were friendly and welcoming, we were upgraded on checking in, and thoroughly enjoyed the extra space to relax in front of the fire. Breakfast is included in the accommodation, and it was so delicious, with fresh compotes home made jams and fresh bread, plus a hot dish was offered as well. We ate in the dining room on the Saturday night, and were blown away by the standard of food and service. These people are passionate about food and it shows. We loved our stay and loved Port Fairy, we certainly would stay here again.

Merrijig Inn

Merrijig Inn has some interesting information on why Australia is called the land down under?
Australia is known as 'the land Down Under' for its position in the southern hemisphere. The discovery of Australia began when European explorers searched for land under the continent of Asia. Before Australia was discovered, it was known as Terra Australis Incognita the unknown southern land.
