VIC Tourism welcomes Merrimeet Cottages in Bright, find and discover wonderful places to visit in Bright.Merrimeet Cottages is a small, family run business set in a hectare of English woodland. The residence is a grand Tudor house accompanied by three separate garden apartments and three river cottages. All contain wood fires, reverse cycle air conditioning, queen size beds and self contained kitchenettes. The rambling gardens flow on to the Canyon walk along side the Ovens River, the centre of beautiful Bright five minutes walk away. Since February 2015, Merrimeet has been owned and run by a young family of three, Alistair, Kellie and Josie. In September 2015, the family swelled to five with the addition of two gorgeous twin girls called Maya and Heidi. Alistair was raised in Tasmania, Kellie hails from Scotland and together they try and provide for their guests with a combination of laid back Tasmanian warmth and welcoming British charm. Josie turned two last September, you will probably find her tottering in the gardens....

Riverdeck cottage was such a gorgeous, comfy and clean cottage with complimentary coffee, tea etc and yummy shortbread. Well equiped with appliances and the bed was very comfy. A beautiful secluded and quiet spot and it was so relaxing sitting on the deck listening to the water running and the birds chirping. A great location within a shirt stroll aling the river into town centre. Alistair was very welcoming and friendly and Merrimeet is a credit to him and his wife Kellie. Will certainly be back and would highly recommend
Merrimeet is a group of cottages nestled into an idyllic setting along the Ovens river about 10 minutes walk or 3 minutes drive from the center of Bright. This is our fifth visit to Bright since we had our honeymoon there forty years ago and our second stay at Merrimeet. There is little noise there except for the river and the birds. The cottages are clean and well maintained and very comfortable. My only very slight complaint is that the bedroom curtains could be block out but that is a very minor quibble. The cottages are typically one or two bedroom and the size of a smallish house with plenty of room for a couple or in the case of the two bed room cottages, a small family. The facilities are excellent with a smallish equipped kitchen, SPA, split system aircon, and wood heater in each unit. There is also a Weber and outdoor gazebo and picnic areas.
Merrimeet Cottages has some interesting information on why Australia is called the land down under?
Australia is known as 'the land Down Under' for its position in the southern hemisphere. The discovery of Australia began when European explorers searched for land under the continent of Asia. Before Australia was discovered, it was known as Terra Australis Incognita the unknown southern land.
